How to Become a Woman of God

The past 5 months or so, I've been reading books and seeking God about how to become a godly woman and, in turn, a godly wife.  This is my passion for myself and for other women.  I graduated from Liberty University with a degree in women's ministry.  We talked over and over again about the characteristics of a godly woman and how to teach other women about God and become a woman who pleases God.  I know logically what I need to do, now it is just really putting those characteristics into practice and allowing God to change me from the inside out.

As elementary as this is, God taught me a fundamental and revolutionary lesson this past week about becoming a woman of God.  I have started attending the morning Bible study at Thomas Road Baptist Church and we are doing the Faithful Abudant True Bible study by Kay Arthur, Priscilla Shirer, and Beth Moore.  Kay Arthur teaches the first two lessons, and while I was doing my homework last week, she wrote in our workbooks,
"The Bible's truth sustains you, keeps you, sets you apart for a life that pleases Him,  life that is holy, consecrated to God.  Knowing God, knowing truth because you have dug it out for yourself, determining to study the Bible book by book, will help you be what God has called you to be- a godly woman, a godly wife, a godly mother, a godly example in the church or marketplace."

The secret to becoming a godly woman really is no secret at all!  You become a woman of God by becoming a woman of the Word, and allowing the Word to pierce your soul and transform your life.  Matthew 4:4 says, "It is written, Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God."    As Kay said, if God has given us 66 books- how many do you think He wants us to know?  Not only are we to know Scripture but we are to live by every Word, because it is the very Word of God!

My prayer today is that I would become a woman who yearns for the Word, who lives by the Word, and is transformed by the Word.  I do not want to become sluggish in my faith and in my walk with the Lord like the audience of the book of Hebrews.  I do not want to have to be fed milk, but instead solid food.  I want to go deeper still with my Savior!

Wash me in the Water of the Word
I lay me on the altar of Your Will
Present me blameless without blemish,
Holy Bride
Lord, purify your Bride

Preperation

I am starting this blog in preperation of marriage to my beloved.  I am so excited to become Jeremy's wife and am enjoying preparing for not only the wedding, but most importantly for our marriage.  It is my desire to be a "crown upon his head" (Proverbs 12:4- "An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who shames him is like rottenness in his bones")

I am spending this time of engagement reading books and articles about marriage and household management,  talking with married ladies, reading others blogs, and just trying to soak up as much wisdom as I can.  One of my favorite quotes is "Use this time as preperation, not just anticipation".  How true that is for this season of life.

I cannot wait to establish our home and family, and to share our journey with you here on our blog.  Here, we'll be able to connect with family and friends, even if we live far apart.  We love you all and hope you enjoy sharing "life with the jenkins"!
