Pinterest Project Linky Party

This week I have shared with you several projects and recipes that were inspired by a pin on Pinterest.  Today, I am excited to see a project that you have been inspired to make from Pinterest!  It can be a recent project, or one you've done in the past.  Link your project below to share!

I ask that you please link back to this post- sorry I don't have a blog button for you to use!

Today I'll share with you the most simple project I completed this week...a bored jar.

I'm sure you've seen this picture on Pinterest if you pin:

I was showing Jeremy a couple of pictures and scrolling through my pins when he asked me about this one.  He suggested that we make our own bored jar and fill it with fun, cheap things we can do throughout the week when we get bored and sit around asking what we want to do.  I was all for the idea.

So we got out some index cards and brainstormed some fun, and some productive, ideas.  We included things like- play a card game, go get ice cream, and rent a movie.  We also included things like- do a load of laundry, clean the bathroom, and wash dishes.

We put our ideas in a mason jar that sits in the kitchen for easy access.

It is a simple idea that was originally meant for kids, but hey, we get bored sometimes too. :)

I have a few more projects to share with you through the weekend including some Christmas crafts.  I'm getting in the Christmas spirit!

I'm excited to see what projects you link below!

Pinterest Project Week- Wrapping Paper Wreath

This week is all about actually completing some projects I’ve pinned on Pinterest.  I’ve dubbed it “Pinterest Project Week”.  Don’t forget, I’m hosting my first linky party on Friday for any Pinterest inspiration projects you want to share!

I have been collecting a lot of Christmas inspiration on my Pinterest board- “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”. I plan to do a white and natural Christmas theme and I have been finding so many great ideas.

One of them was this wreath-

I love the look of it but wasn’t so crazy about the red.  I knew I had some pretty paper that looked similar so I decided to make my own wreath using this tutorial from the original pin. Here is how mine turned out!

wrappingpaperwreath1

It was time consuming but I think it was worth it in the end.  I had planned to use it for Christmas decoration but I hung it above our sink and it just feels that empty space so well I might just leave it there all the time (or at least until I get something else to put there)  I think I might just add a bow to it for Christmas.

The paper I used was from the dollar store and I cut out a wreath shape from poster board as the base.  In total it probably cost about $1.50 to make.

Have you been working on projects this week?  Can’t wait to see them on Friday at the linky party!

Pinterest Project Week- Recipes Worth a Try

This week is all about actually completing some projects I’ve pinned on Pinterest.  I’ve dubbed it “Pinterest Project Week”.  Don’t forget, I’m hosting my first linky party on Friday for any Pinterest inspiration projects you want to share!

One of my boards on Pinterest is called “Recipes Worth a Try”.  I have tried two new recipes from this board and they both were delicious!

Recipe #1 is Smoky Corn and Black Bean Pizza

Here is the picture I repinned:

Smoky Corn & Black Bean Pizza Recipe

and here is our version…

100_2087

We used chedder cheese instead of mozzarella and we probably used a little more than the recipe called for, but I love cheese!

The original recipe is for a grilled pizza and doesn’t call for any onions, but we just baked our regular pizza crust in the oven and added our own toppings- diced plum tomatoes, diced onion, a can of black beans, and a can of corn (only used half a can of corn).  The pizza sauce is actually BBQ sauce and that gives it the smoky flavor.  You can find the original recipe here.  This will probably become a regular meal in our house, we really enjoyed it!  Here is a link to the original recipe

Recipe #2 was Fluffy Pancakes

Pinned Image

I didn’t get any pictures of our pancakes, because we ate them so fast!  They were some of the best pancakes I’ve ever had and I plan to use this recipe as my regular pancake recipe.  They have so much more flavor than pancake mix and really were fluffy!  At first I thought the mix was too thick, but it turned out to be just right.

I highly suggest you try this recipe the next time you make pancakes!

Here is the original recipe:

Ingredients
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • cooking spray
Directions
  1. Combine milk with vinegar in a medium bowl and set aside for 5 minutes to "sour".
  2. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Whisk egg and butter into "soured" milk. Pour the flour mixture into the wet ingredients and whisk until lumps are gone.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium heat, and coat with cooking spray. Pour 1/4 cupfuls of batter onto the skillet, and cook until bubbles appear on the surface. Flip with a spatula, and cook until browned on the other side.

You can find the recipe here as well.

Pinterest Project Week

Have you been as obsessed with Pinterest as I have?  I started pinning early this summer and I have been pinning away since!  During our transition and moving the past four or five months, I didn't have the time or the space to really do many craft or DIY projects.  Instead, I've just been pinning ideas for projects and projects and more projects.

This week I am declaring a Pinterest Project Week for myself and I'm inviting you to join me!  Each day I will be sharing a project that I have completed this week that was inspired by one of my pins.

I encourage you to complete at least one Pinterest project and join me on Friday to share your project with my first linky party!  I just want to see what great things you were able to create.  This isn't a new idea, there have already been many Pinterest challenges, but I hope you'll consider having a little fun and working on a project this week instead of just pinning ideas! :)

I'll see you tomorrow with my first project!

Our Fall Porch

Nothing fancy, but a nice little touch of the season.  I love driving up to the house and seeing our mum everyday.  We are loving the fall weather and the change of season.  We enjoy sitting out on our porch in the evenings in the brisk air.  Last night I cuddled up in a blanket while we just sat and talked- love those sweet times together.

Our New Washer and Dryer

We got our washer and dryer last Saturday!  I've enjoyed being able to do the laundry as I've needed to this week and not have to wait until the end of the week and load it all up and take it somewhere!

Our living room curtains are actually too long and I cut off the bottom of one and made a little curtain to go on our back door.  A really easy and free way to add a little color.

We purchased our washer and dryer at a scratch and dent place- they aren't a matching set but that's ok, we got a great buy on them.  I don't think the scratches are bad (you can see some on the corner of the washer) and I can certainly live with them for a good price.  We also went to Ikea last weekend and purchased a galvanized shelf to go in the laundry room.  (You can see it on the other side of the washer and dryer)

Pinned Image
At only $14.99, it is surprisingly sturdy and easy to assemble.  I'm using it to store cleaning supplies, extra paper towels, cans of soda, and other items we don't have room for in the kitchen.

Slipcovered Ottoman

Somehow Jeremy and I “inherited” a storage ottoman from Jeremy’s college roommates.  Jeremy used this ottoman for several years in college and it ended up being moved with all of our stuff to our new house.  Jeremy likes it and of course wanted to keep it and I of course thought it was ugly and didn’t match our furniture.  But I did enjoy having it to prop up my feet on so I decided to make a slipcover for it.

             OttomanSlipcoverAfterbefore ottoman

I just used canvas drop cloth and first created a plain cube slipcover (which you can see in the picture below)
[100_2026%255B4%255D.jpg]

But I wanted to spruce it up a little more so I sewed on a pleated bottom and then hot glued a white trim piece around the seam.  I picked up the trim at a local thrift store for only 20 cents and the fabric was leftover from another slipcover project I’m working on.  Since we didn’t even pay for the ottoman, the total cost was only 20 cents!

This was a quick and easy project and I love the finished results.  I saw these same ottomans at our local Wal-Mart last week on clearance for $7 if you are interested in recovering one!

I was inspired by this slipcover from Dear Lillie.  She has a great tutorial up on how she made her slipcover!

Laundry Room

I have yet to show you photos of our laundry room because, well, there really isn't much to show.  We didn't have a washer and a dryer and so I hadn't really started organizing or sprucing up the room yet.  BUT yesterday we went and bought a washer and dryer and we're going to pick them up today!  Whoo Hoo!  I can't tell you how excited I am to do laundry this afternoon... weird right?  Laundry is actually my favorite household chore- I love the smells and the feel of warm clothes coming out of the dryer.  Sometimes I don't even mind ironing...sometimes.

So here is our laundry room, waiting for our special delivery today.

Not that our laundry room will look like any of these photos anytime soon, but I love some of the laundry room inspiration pictures I've pinned on Pinterest.  Here are some of my favorite.

Hoping to draw some inspiration from these photos and incorporate baskets, glass canisters, bottles, open shelving and fabric into our laundry room.  Time will tell what I come up with!

Our New Home- Kitchen Tour

Here is my second favorite room in our new house- our kitchen.

100_2049100_2051100_2052

Jeremy and my dad made the apron rack for me this summer.  I found a piece of green baseboard at our local Habitat Restore for $1 and cut it in half to make two shelves- one for aprons and I had planned to use the other for towels.  I love being able to display my aprons!

I changed a few things around in the kitchen this weekend so I’ll have to share updated pictures with you later this week.  I am still trying to decide on the best placement for the table, maybe you can help me decide!

I’m in Love

My best friend Heather had her first baby last week, and I just have to say that I’m totally and completely in love with this sweet little boy.

So proud of Heather, she has been through a lot the past week and she had come through so well!  She is going to be such a wonderful mommy.  And I’m gonna love watching him grow!

Our New House- Office Tour

We are using our extra bedroom as our office/craft room.  Like the rest of the house, it is a work in progress but it is nice to have a place for our books and for my craft supplies.

100_2043100_2045100_2046100_2047

We want to add a larger desk in this corner soon for our computer and office supplies.  I’m on the lookout on Craigslist and at our local thrift stores!

Our New House- Living Room Tour

I cannot be begin to tell you how excited we have been to finally have our own house!  I’ve been enjoying unpacking and making it ours for the past couple of weeks and finally have enough done to share our work in progress.  There is still much to do, but we're loving it.

The front door leads directly into our large living room.  Here’s what we have in there so far…

Tomorrow I’ll share our bedroom!

Our New Home- Bedroom Tour

My favorite room in our new house is our bedroom.  I love our white bedding and our beautiful handmade headboard (a post on the headboard will be coming soon)!

100_2031

100_2033100_2034

It’s a fairly small room but it’s cozy and there is plenty of room for us. I would like to get a few picture frames to go over the bed and add a painted dresser.  But there will be plenty of time to add that later.  It’s a soft and relaxing room- exactly what we want to come home to at the end of the day.

Fall Wreath

100_2058

Last year I bought a fall leaf garland at JoAnn’s on clearance after Thanksgiving and hot glued it onto a grapevine wreath to make this wreath.  I had forgotten all about it until a few weeks ago when I went up into my parent’s attic to get something and saw it.  I told my mom, “that’s such a pretty wreath, where did you get it?”  She was like, “It’s yours.  You made it!”  Oh well, at least I still liked it a year later, even if I had forgotten that I had made it!

One of the first things I did when we moved in to our new house was put up our fall wreath.  I love being able to decorate for fall!  I love coming home to our house and knowing it’s just me and Jeremy.  I love being able to decorate however I want.

Come back tomorrow and I’ll begin to show you around our new house!
